A Manifesto

Okay, manifesto might not be the right word. But it’s a big word, manifesto, and an important word, and the gratitude I need to share right now is both big and important.

A huge thank you to everyone who is reading this. There are so many new readers on GSG this week, and I have loved your comments, e-mails, and pieces of feedback – every single one. I started this blog because there are so many places on the web that tell you how charming your life should be, how perfect your outfit should look, how amazingly you should decorate your house. But sometimes those little glimpses of life  – while inspirational – can also be more than a little  intimidating.

What if my cookies don’t bake perfectly? What if I don’t have brand new designer heels? What if I don’t have the entire Williams Sonoma catalog in my kitchen? It’s easy to become overwhelmed and disillusioned. What if? What if? What if?

So to that, I say: so what?

So what if those cookies aren’t perfect? You can try again. Or just dunk them in a bigger glass of milk and say good riddance.

So what if your heels aren’t designer or new? You can create a whole new outfit based on the shoes you already have – and, if you’re like me, probably love more anyway.

So what if you don’t have every kitchen gadget on the market? We already know teaspoons make great melon ballers. Reuse, repurpose, and above all, recreate. Yourself, your kitchen, your wardrobe, your life. It’s never too late and I hope you are never so disillusioned that you forget that.

For the record, I have a tiny kitchen, an even tinier closet, and an atrocious track record with baked goods. And yet, my life still feels charming, and amazing, and imperfectly perfect a lot of the time.

And so should yours, because you deserve that.

So here’s to trying. And failing. And trying again. And to the charming, graceful, hilarious, imperfect perfection that can be your life if you let it in.

Thank you for being here. Thank you for trying and learning and growing with me. Thank you, above all, for your comments and kind words. I hope GourmetStyleGirl can be a place where we can come to feel inspired and learn new things. I can’t wait to get to know you better.

XO – Hilary

Ava – thank you so much for visiting! Hits and Fits is gorgeous and hilarious. Also, I wasn’t kidding when I said I wanted to dash out for boat shoes TODAY. There is a sparkly gold pair of Top Siders in my purse from a lunchtime excursion just an hour ago 🙂

Thank you for being here! Looking forward to hearing more from you!
