Collegiate Chic – Style Roundup

Collegiate Chic

September and October always make me long for college. I mean, a lot of things make me long for college – like when I have to take my stretchy pants off in the morning instead of leave them on all day, for example – but Autumn especially. Remember crunching across campus in a fetching new sweater, holding your books to your chest and glancing sidelong at boys like in 1950? Or wearing plaid because it was adorable and collegiate, and not because you were trying to look like you just got back from Coachella? OR freezing your butt off at cold football games, but not putting on a jacket because it clashed with your giant sorority bow? Guilty as charged and I loved it. You haven’t lived until the size of the bow on your head is comparable to the size of your actual head.

If you’re looking to add a little prep school pep in your step, these six pieces are a guaranteed grown-up way to go back, back, back to school again.

1. A gorgeous stadium-cloth jacket to help you stay true to your school – or at least stand out at pep rallies. ($169)

2. Sassy pencils from Wit + Delight that are both note and doodle-worthy. ($3)

3. Tod’s sophisticated new take on the old-school satchel, for those of us with dream budgets! ($1,595)

4. Who needs saddle shoes when you have Everlane’s modern loafer? ($165)

5. Skip to work or class in an adorably retro peter pan collar. ($44.50)

6. Plaid’s not just a fad my friends – and at this price, you can afford to make it a staple. ($16.99)

Central Park Morning

Central Park Morning
I’m going to New York this weekend, and – as uncool and possibly touristy as this is going to sound – I’m so dang excited! I’ve been to the fields of Eastern Africa, the villages of Eastern Europe (only they call them willages in their charmingly accented English), the cafes and museums of France and Italy, and I’ve combed every nook and cranny of my favorite mountains. But I’ve never been to New York. It’s about time, oui?
This Style Set was inspired by what I think I’ll need for an early morning stroll through the park: warm, cozy, soft, and adorable. Isn’t this what every girl wants to be when she’s in New York? Especially that coat from TopShop. Watch out, adorable coat. I’m coming for you! More shopping information below.
Have you been? What do you pack? I’d love your tips and advice!

Perfect Pumpkin Patch Ensemble

Perfect Pumpkin Patch Ensemble

Wouldn’t this outfit be just perfect for a day at the pumpkin patch? Simple, chic and seasonal, with enough tomboy to heft a pumpkin and enough girly glam to look adorable while doing it. Add a sassy ponytail and cuff the jeans to complete the look!

Also, say what you will about Old Navy, but they are the only store where I’ve found pants petite enough for me. Banana Republic petites – fail. J. Crew petites – fail. Old Navy ankle size is both cheap and golden in terms of fit. And that, friends, is a pretty perfect combination.

The Big Sleep

The Big Sleep

I am particular about my bed. And my PJs, the temperature of my room, my sheets, and pretty much everything else pertaining to my sleep. My boyfriend says I have an affinity to my bed that normal people don’t have, and it’s been suggested to me numerous times that I probably love my bed way, way too much.

I’m in bed as I type this.

But if we humans spend a third of our lives in bed, shouldn’t we look fabulous and feel amazing for that third? My sleep requirements include soft fabrics, broken-in sheets, a cup of peppermint tea before bed, and a beautiful sleep mask that keeps the light out and lets me sleep in. Even if it’s just for a glorious five extra minutes.

Badass Chick Uniform

Badass Chick Uniform

To me, being a badass chick means being prepared for just about anything. In San Francisco, that means a warm scarf and jacket for layering and a stylish messenger bag to stash hair ties, small purchases, and my trusty DSLR. Converse sneaks make me feel like I can take on the world – or at least, the intense hills – and my omnipresent Moleskine for when inspiration strikes. Or when I need to write down some clues, Nancy Drew-style.

Reiss Red

You Red It Here First!

Fall in San Francisco feels more like summer everywhere else, but that doesn’t make it any easier to abandon the idea of tights, blazers and back-to-school shopping.

Inspired by the perfect red blazer from Reiss (Kate Middleton’s go-to shop for classic pieces) this Style Set replaces the backpack and saddle shoes of childhood with punchy stiletto loafers and a ladylike handbag that will carry you through whatever the season – or school year – will bring.

Northern Californians, let’s sharpen our pencils and take note of the new uniform for Fall. Shopping info below.

Style Set: Campfire Chic

Campfire Chic

As a Colorado native cum San Francisco girl, I can attest to the necessity of both form and fashion – even when nature beckons.

Plaid shirts are a must, not only because you can channel your inner lumberjill, but because flannel will keep you warm when the temperature dips down at night. Ditto the North Face vest, which my fellow Colorado ladies and I were never without during the chilly mountain winters.

I like to bring my skinny jeans camping because it’s easy to layer ‘em up with wool socks or tuck them into boots for extra warmth.

And of course, you cannot go wrong with extra blankets, some just-in-case gloves, and s’mores.

This Style Set will keep you warm, comfortable, and adorable, no matter how early nature calls.

Uh, I mean, beckons.
