Honey Olive Oil Scrub

Inspired by Kate’s recipe for sugar scrub, I decided to make cute labeled jars of this get-me-through-the-winter concoction for friends as Christmas gifts.

Even though California girls don’t have the same winter concerns as my Colorado ladies, a rubdown with this sweet smelling scrub is a welcome treat anytime.

Added bonuses: the ingredients are cheap and easy to buy in bulk. You can whip this gift up quickly for those last minute invitations or gift exchanges – this would be an amazing hostess gift!

The best bonus of all: you get to eat mass quantities of salsa in order to get the jars.

40/40 Artwork

My dear friend Caresa had a genius  idea for her fabulous 40th year of life: give friends and family each a square of canvas and have them paint, draw, bedazzle or otherwise create something in her honor. She hung them in her apartment, gallery-style, in a giant grid. It’s an explosion of happiness and awesome.

As part of Crafternoon 2011, I put the finishing touches on my gradient sunrise. And yes, that is a line of golden glitter right through the middle.

What’s the best thing you’ve ever done to celebrate a birthday?

I’m not the craftiest person in the world. Best Friend Dana tried to teach me to knit – for relaxation purposes – during finals week our sophomore year of college and I cried because my scarf wasn’t perfect. Or even a scarf, really. More an amorphous blob of yarn.

I’ll have the massage/pedicure package next time, thanks.

However, there is something to be said for the act of creation, in and of itself, whether you produce a masterpiece or a blob. I’ve been feeling really down and uninspired lately, so I decided having some girlfriends over for an afternoon of wine, knitting, glitter, ribbons, and anything else crafty was the perfect pick-me-up.

What do you do to get inspired?
